ESPRIMO Q1510: Testwinner of the PC magazine "PC FÖR ALLA".

The ESPRIMO Q1510 has won the test of the swedish PC magazine "PC FÖR ALLA" !
Here is the review:
POWERFUL & FRESH FROM FUJITSU
Inside The FUJITSU ESPRIMO Q1510 we find Core i3, the entry-cpu in Intel's new processor series. But it is meant to directly match the Core 2 duo and eventually phase it out from the market, so it is not a bad CPU we are dealing with. ESPRIMO Q1510 runs with Intel's integrated graphics GMA HD and four gigabytes of DDR3 memory. Together with the much larger Shuttle computer, this is by far the fastest computer in the test, and in performance per kg is the absolutely unbeatable. It is almost as small as the Mac Mini and as well as Dell Zino HD it can be delivered with an upper surface in a variety of colors, patterns and motifs.
Combining Core i3 and new Intel graphics gives Esprimo Q1510 best 3D performance in the test, and games that are not too heavy graphics can easily be enjoyed. How about playing World of Warcraft in the sofa in front of giant TV instead of you crouching over your desk? It is really excellent, especially if you take it easy on graphics effects. What then happens then is that an almost aggressive cooling goes ahead and raises a small jet engine to life. But it might not interfere as much when you're busy beating troll’s into bits and pieces. However, we do not believe that the computer can handle upscaling of DVD video to HD size as good as Asus, Dell and Apple, running Nvidia and ATI graphics. It looks decent, but for a 10 000 SEK machine, we feel it does not quite fit the price tag. True positive is, however, that it is nearly silent as DVD players. A muffled, almost inaudible buzz is all it makes when playing a DVD or Blu-rayfilm.
Positive: Good performance. Small and compact. Blu-ray.
Negative: At times noisy. Some problems with upscaling. High price.

Congratulations! And a protruded tongue to all other attendees :P
Wow, that is really awesome.
I think this is the best response to a developer, if the product get so much positive feedback. But i can't understand the negative points. The Esprimo is noisy? Ok, if you are trying to let him calculate pi, then it could get louder, but not that much to call it noisy ...
The problem of upscaling is imho not a problem of the Esprimo then of the TV you use it with. I have got the same problem, so i choose to buy a new TV with Full HD Support to give the right environment to my little esprimo.
Ok, high price is a point i would agree. But hey, you get a mini PC of high quality and that attributes. If the price is to high for somebody, he should better buy a cheaper product of lower quality.
Very nice feedback by PC FÖR ALLA :)
The noise problem:
They are right. Sometimes I watch HD Stream of NHL and then the fan gets very loud because of the flash player.
The problem is that the flash player takes many ressources.
The same problem occured while gaming. It got very noisy for a short time but I thought this wouldn't happen again.
But that's normal. A computer has to protect itself by turning on the fan. :)
The overscan problem is not always the TV. Sometimes it's the graphic card but those problem occur on every graphic card in some constellations. ;)
Verena: Why did you take away the point for the posting? :D
Congratulations! Poland is proud of you Esprimo Q1510 ;)
netbuzzr - upscaling is not only the matter of TV. I have a decent but not to fancy TV (Sony KDL-W4000) but it wont upscale anything. But the LG BD370 Blu-ray player is doing it wonderfully! Good upscaling can change decent DVD movie to near HD quality.
The price is also something that Fujitsu needs to take under consideration. Q1510 has a great potential as a media server (especially with build in BR ROM), but it is expensive. We can't argue with that. The problem is not that you can buy cheaper product of lower quality. The problem is that you can buy one or few products of the same value but higher quality.
In my opinion this is the main problem with all mini PC. They are small, energy saving and stylish, but people are always looking for something faster for the same price.
szymon: It depends on the configuration you order! It starts at 555€ but ours costs 799€. ;)
Of course it is a high price. But this is a computer. If you only want to watch movies from USB you can buy a device like WD HD Live. But if you need Blu-ray and USB media support like a computer it's getting expensive...
Maybe there are some parts which can be produced a litte bit cheaper. But quality has its price so every consumer which takes care of quality knows that he has to pay a litte bit more...
Sure. I agree but you know. For 600 euro you can buy LG BD390 Blu-ray player and a laptop. Or Playstation 3 console, a laptop and few movies. You'll get the same media experience plus video games and mobile computer.
I'm not saying that Q1510 is bad piece of hardware. It's great! I'm just saying that its expensive, and many people wont even think about it because of the price and the fact that after all it's just a stationary PC. Small and energy efficient but still just a stationary PC.
Awesome, I have been looking for the little "Q" in stores here in Norway but I can't find anyone that sells it? I checked out the stores that are linked to, (Komplett and MPX) but none of them seem to have it. When will it be available for sale for normal consumers here in Norway? Regarding the fan noise mentioned in the review I can't say that I have noticed this yet, and I am very picky when it comes to computer noise. Maybe the fan is staying cool because I am in Norway and the polar bears currently living in my livingroom are doing their best to keep the heat down?
@Szymon:
Ah, alright? The ESPRIMO combines everything in one device!
In your constellation everything is seperated and that's the advantage the ESPRIMO has. You get all in one device. ;)
And I want to see your detailled calculation.
PS3: about 280€
movies: about 50€
laptop: about 270€
A laptop for 270€?
If you want mobile computer you shouldn't even buy the ESPRIMO Q1510. ;)
For 600€ you could also buy expensive clothes. :P
@Robert: On our Shopfinder http://www.one-livingroom.com/pages/productinfo you'll find all details about the retailers in Norway. Just click the flag of Norway. :-)
@Verena I already tried this, and it looks like only one of the stores listed in Norway has it available; http://www.pcexpress.no/SearchResult.aspx?q=kw:Q1510 the rest does not show any Esprimo Q1510...
#congrats
My personal experience during these weeks has shown that the Esprimo Q1510 has drawn the most attention in the category of middle aged and well educated men like my father for example. They're usually interested in home electronics and have the income to afford this kind of device.
My father ain't using computers for anything but work and paying bills but Esprimo opens up a new world for him as the computer is directly connected to TV, which is much more familiar way of consuming entertainment and news than Internet is for me.
So the award is well deserved!
Now the ESPRIMO got an additional Award - the Stefan thumbs up award ;) - I like the ESPRIMO.
How to keep winning awards like this in the future?
I'd say Esprimo -series should be focused to two or three things only, not for every possible purpose.
Where to focus then? In my opinion:
1. First experience, make it as easy as possible, so that anyone afraid of "computers" doesn't get freaked out during the install phase. Put in all the necessary cables, make the install UI easy to use
2.Media consumption added with News and Blogs. Write a blog guide, where to find blogs, what are the most popular ones at the moment, how-to use RSS and that basic stuff. It already got a Blu-ray device and enough storage, but that is just technical stuff, it lacks the usability
3. Lightweight gaming. I'm sure the main target group for Esprimo series ain't probably hardcore gamers, but I'm sure they'd like to play SOMETHING, and if there was like a partnership with Steam (or some indie game provider) it would be much easier to find those games and get into the world of gaming in a living room.
That was my two cents for the future :)
