Answers of your Questions Part I

Your questions answered by Cornelia Kühling (Product Manager ESPRIMO Q) and Daniel Klaus (Marketing Manager) More answers will be available shortly on the Face2Fujitsu Blog.

Design

What was your design inspiration? Did you just have some general guide lines to aim for (size, colors etc.) or did the design team have more freedom with the design?

The challenge is always to create an unique product with strong appeal and character by staying in the borders of our corporate design governance and guidelines. The products have to show and transport the FUJITSU brand values, but the design theme and orientation is focused on our customers’ needs and requirements. These have been the different design options:

Was there ever the idea of making the Fujitsu symbol glowing, known from Mac Computers as seen in the picture?
Of course illumination is an important and nice issue. But in this case, a glowing product would cause more irritations in use than creating additional appeal. Being positioned normally closely to the TV set, additional lighting would be a disadvantage and not be accepted by our users.

Answers of your Questions Part II

MISCELLANEOUS

ESPRIMO is connected to the TV via HDMI. I've set the resolution to 1920x1080 but the desktop doesn't fit into the monitor. I have to scale it using Intel software but it isn't as clear as without scaling. I installed the video drivers from the CD provided in the package but it didn't change it at all. Any suggestions?
If this problem persists, just leave describe the problem to support@one-livingroom.com.

Can i use the remote control to control other media-center-solutions beside windows?
Our RF remote is qualified as a pure MCE solution acc. to MS standards.
So all codes given from the USB dongle receiver to the system are following the corresponding MS specification. If these other media-center-solutions are following the MS spec regarding these codes, it would work. In fact – without knowing anything about this other media-center-solutions – we’d expect some basic functions could work, but no full function.

Will there be the chance to make another remote control work for my ESPRIMO, too?

In principle you can use any type of Win7 / MCE compatible remote/receiver combo (IR or RF). Of course the ESPRIMO is tested with the bundled remote only. But there is no chance to combine the Fujitsu USB dongle receiver with another remote as the RF communication between receiver and remote is proprietary.

I would love to control TV, Receiver and ESPRIMO with just one remote control
.
Remotes for TV/Receiver and Audio devices are working with IR transmission with the known restrictions of range and line of sight. The ESPRIMO Q1510 remote is working with 2.4 GHz RF transmission which offers a longer operation range and no need of free line of sight between remote and system. If you want to control your ESPRIMO and your TV/Audio equipment with only one remote you need a pure IR or a IR/RF combo solution for TV/Audio and PC (including separate receiver for the PC).

What about a battery like in notebooks. Would that be possible?
Then it could get portable with an usb monitor. For this usage scenario, we would recommend a thin and light notebook ;-)

Secondly, it would be real nice if the ESPRIMO had a laptop -like bag so you could pack it neatly for carrying around. Thanks for your feedback, we' ll discuss this as an idea for our products. Btw
for business customers we already offer this kind of backpack solution.

Answers of your Questions Part IV

There had been another very interesting question about the different processor types. Here is the answer from Cornelia Kühling:

What is the difference between ESPRIMO Qs Core i3 processor vs Core2Duo or vs Atom?

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor is more or less  the predecessor of the Intel® Core™ i3. Both focus on performance but still with good energy efficiency. Intel® Core™ i3 is the latest processor and therefore it offers the most performance vs the Core™ 2 Duo or the Intel® Atom™.

Intel® Atom™ is designed for price sensitive buyer an its perfect e.g. for browsing the web. But Intel® Atom™ has not the performance of a Intel® Core™ 2 Duo and of course not of the Intel® Core™ i3 which was built into the ESPRIMO Q1510.

ESPRIMO Q1510: Testwinner of the PC magazine "PC FÖR ALLA".

The ESPRIMO Q1510 has just won the test of the swedish PC magazine "PC FÖR ALLA" ! Here is the review:

POWERFUL & FRESH FROM FUJITSU

Inside The FUJITSU ESPRIMO Q1510 we find Core i3, the entry-cpu  in Intel's new processor series. But it is meant to directly match the Core 2 duo and eventually phase it out from the market, so it is not a bad CPU we are dealing with. ESPRIMO Q1510 runs with Intel's integrated graphics GMA HD and four gigabytes of DDR3 memory. Together with the much larger Shuttle computer, this is by far the fastest computer in the test, and in performance per kg is the absolutely unbeatable. It is almost as small as the Mac Mini and as well as Dell Zino HD it can be delivered with an upper surface in a variety of colors, patterns and motifs.

Combining Core i3 and new Intel graphics gives Esprimo Q1510 best 3D performance in the test, and games that are not too heavy graphics can easily be enjoyed. How about playing World of Warcraft in the sofa in front of giant TV instead of you crouching over your desk? It is really excellent, especially if you take it easy on graphics effects. What then happens then is that an almost aggressive cooling goes ahead and raises a small jet engine to life. But it might not interfere as much when you're busy beating troll’s into bits and pieces. However, we do not believe that the computer can handle upscaling of DVD video to HD size as good as Asus, Dell and Apple, running Nvidia and ATI graphics. It looks decent, but for a 10 000 SEK machine, we feel it does not quite fit the price tag. True positive is, however, that it is nearly silent as DVD players. A muffled, almost inaudible buzz is all it makes when playing a DVD or Blu-rayfilm.

Positive: Good performance. Small and compact. Blu-ray.
Negative: At times noisy. Some problems with upscaling. High price.
