Favorite feature number two is definitely the low noise. Living around servers and computers on a daily basis makes you very sensitive to fan noise. Especially a computer that is supposed to be in the living room needs to be dead silent. You just don’t want to be bothered with fan noise when watching a great movie, or in scenes where there is total silence.
There have been some contradicting reports from the different insiders on the fan noise, but it has almost been non-existent on my little “Q”. It might be because I am in Norway, and we have a colder climate than other countries ;-)

One of my favorite features is the size and light weight. It weighs less than my laptop! If you compare this computers specifications against other computers and don’t take the size into account there is nothing special about it, but the size makes it so easy to place, all you need is a power cable, it even has wifi so you are not dependent on a network cable to get wifi on the little ”Q” This computer will make it easier for the average consumer to bring the computer to the living room, and when you have a computer connected to your big screen TV, the possibilities are endless!

One thing that really annoyed me was that there was no included HDMI cable. With this pc being marketed as a living room pc and a pc expected to be connected to a big screen, why was there no HDMI cable shipped with the package?
Attached is a picture of my HDMI cable, this little sucker set me back 800 NOK, about €100! Way overpriced here in Norway, bu I needed i fast and did not have time to order online...

And if you are into overclocking the processor, heat is going to be difficult to get rid of with the little "Q". Some of you already think the fan is making too much noise, but for me it is dead silent. If you would want to overclock it your options are a bigger heat sink or a faster fan, or both! And I don't think you will fit any of them in the little "Q".
In this picture you can see a much larger heatsink that would allow the processor to spin faster than it’s made for. I don’t think I’ll be able to fit it in the little “Q” :p

Well the processor is not everything, the storage capacity is also important, and 500GB won’t take you that far. If you want to transfer some HD video from your camcorder the little "Q" will be able to store about 10 - 20 hours of HD video, depending on the compression. It can even be as little as one hour if you are transferring uncompressed HD video. For normal users this might be enough, but for enthusiasts that store a lot of raw footage it's not the ideal solution. Of course we need to take the size of the little “Q” in account but as HD camcorders are becoming cheaper and available to more and more consumers it worth a thought.

Personally I’m not the biggest fan of football, but if I end up getting dragged along to watch it’s usually in a bar where everyone is super excited about the game. At least you can enjoy an overpriced beer while everyone starts yelling at the screen! Also if you are planning to watch it at home, and only have a cable service and not tv-on-deamand it’s going to be a bit difficult getting the Esprimo to pick up tv-signals without a tv card as discussed earlier. Regarding the skin in the picture, will it be available for sale, and is there an official store where it is possible to buy skins for my little “Q” ?

If you choose an episode you have seen before you get a screen-shot from that episode and a descriptive text telling you what the episode is all about.

Right, my option is not in this poll, I have almost stopped watching normal TV because of all the commercials. So if there is a TV-show I want to see I get the blu-rays or HD content from iTunes. All the tv-show information is stored on my HTPC and I can choose a show and or episode automatically with a click of the remote. This allows for great flexibility, I don’t have to watch the show when it airs, I can watch it when I have the time, everything is in crystal clear HD, Norwegian cable providers are lagging behind and I can of course pause it during
playback. It’s the best way!

@netbuzzr Cool, I only have some old games laying around but my sister is really eager on trying them all out on the little"Q" I have to say that games were not the first thing I was thinking about using the Esprimo for, but playing computer games on a 46" screen rather than a 24" monitor is really nice!

Awesome, I have been looking for the little "Q" in stores here in Norway but I can't find anyone that sells it? I checked out the stores that are linked to, (Komplett and MPX) but none of them seem to have it. When will it be available for sale for normal consumers here in Norway? Regarding the fan noise mentioned in the review I can't say that I have noticed this yet, and I am very picky when it comes to computer noise. Maybe the fan is staying cool because I am in Norway and the polar bears currently living in my livingroom are doing their best to keep the heat down?

As you can see there is not much expansion card space on the back of the little "Q". Which makes tweaking and expansion practically impossible because of it's size.
Pro. great for the average livingroom computer user, small and practical.
Con. Not the ideal computer to get if you want to upgrade and tweak it yourself.

I wrote about my TV card earlier, it's a Hauppauge wintv pvr 500mce, (picture attached) which allows you to watch one program while recording another, or two programs at the same time with Picture in Picture. You can see the two hardware decoders on the pci card.
If my Esprimo had this it would have it all...

I read in the brochure that came with the package that the Esprimo is running on experimental video card drivers. Will there be automatic updates for these in the future? Does Fujitsu recommend any special x264 video decoders?

The Esprimo would make a great gift if you could add a touch of personality to it. I think the easiest way would be to provide ready to print paper and cover so that the user would be able to print out their own image at home and then attach it to their Esprimo. This way your online store doesn’t need to carry al the designs in the world, and everyone can end up with their own uniquely designed Esprimo. I know that I would want to make my own design ;-)

The Bios/Boot logo. Any chance to customize it? I know it's a lot to ask but it would be cool to create your own Bios logo, some motherboards allow you to do this.

First I did not notice the remote extension cable. Since the Esprimo is packed together in such a small case the USB port and the HDMI port are a bit to close together to make the remotecontrol receiver fit. Luckily with the USB extension cable it fits great, and you get better reception because you can move the receiver to a better position.

One feature that I relly liked was the ability to partition the Esprimo. This allows you to split the disk and have the OS on one partition and all your files on another partition.

Bringing on the remote, nothing special here. It has a big windows logo in the center. I guess it's the media center launch button, but if you use another operating system it looks kind of wrong with a windows logo...

I really liked the wireless mouse with the inbuilt receiver. (Receiver seen sticking out in this picture). It feels like this wireless mouse was made for laptop computers and on-the-go use, rather than something to keep in your living room, but either way, neat feature :D

One thing that annoys me is that the Esprimo did not ship with a HDMI cable. Actually it did not ship with any types of monitor/tv cable. I have some laying around but your normal computer buyer would find it annoying having to run back to the store to get the cable he needs...
The provided DVI -> VGA adapter does not help much without any cables...

Oh, and for my HTPC, I use http://www.team-mediaportal.com/ which is an open source Multi-Media Center pc application. Check out the screenshot. It's much better than Windows media center. (See screenshot attached, it supports a LOT of different tv cards.)

I think a TV card is a must. I haven't received my ESPRIMO yet, but on my own custom HTPC I have two tv cards that allow me to watch and record multiple programs at the same time. It is also great to set the computer to record a program in the future, or schedule it to record a complete tv show automatically when it airs so that you can watch it later. I use this feature a lot as sometimes you end up working long hours and primitive TV, is work time for me. Does anyone else here have any custom built HTPC’s with recording capabilities?
